Osteopath

Osteopathy is a hands-on manual therapy that looks at how the structures of your body — bones, muscles, connective tissue and joints — work together, and where a restriction in one area may be affecting movement or comfort in another. Our Osteopathic Manual Practitioner uses gentle assessment and treatment techniques to address those restrictions and support your recovery.

Who osteopathy may suit

People commonly come to us for:

  • Back, neck, shoulder, hip and joint discomfort
  • Tension headaches and related neck stiffness
  • Sports and repetitive strain injuries
  • Restricted movement or stiffness
  • Postural strain from desk work and long screen hours
  • Pre- and post-natal support

Osteopathy works well alongside physiotherapy, chiropractic care and massage therapy, and your practitioner will coordinate with the rest of the team where that is useful.

What a session involves

Your first visit begins with a conversation about your health history and what brought you in. Your practitioner will assess your posture, movement and areas of tension before discussing a treatment approach with you.

Treatment is hands-on and gentle, and may include soft tissue release, joint articulation and mobilisation, craniosacral techniques, and myofascial release. Techniques are selected and adjusted to your comfort.

Most sessions end with practical guidance you can use at home — a small number of exercises, posture adjustments or ergonomic changes relevant to what we found.

Osteopathy, physiotherapy or chiropractic?

These overlap more than people expect. Osteopathy emphasises whole-body structural balance and manual treatment. Physiotherapy tends to lead with assessment and exercise-based rehabilitation. Chiropractic focuses on the spine and joint adjustment. If you are not sure which fits, call the clinic and we will help you choose, or book an assessment and we will refer you internally if someone else on the team is a better fit.

Coverage and direct billing

Osteopathy is covered by many extended health plans, and we direct bill to most major providers. Coverage varies by plan, so check your benefits booklet or ask us to verify before your first visit.

Common questions

Is osteopathy safe?

Osteopathic manual therapy is gentle and non-invasive. Your practitioner will take a full health history and adjust their approach to your circumstances. Please tell us about any medical conditions, medications or recent injuries before treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies. Some people notice a change after one or two sessions; others benefit from a short course followed by occasional maintenance. Your practitioner will discuss a realistic plan with you after the first assessment rather than committing you to a package up front.

Do you direct bill insurance?

Yes, to most major extended health providers. We will confirm your coverage before you are billed.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

Not for extended health in most cases, though some plans require one for reimbursement. Check your specific plan.
